This tiny jellyfish, as small as the nail on the pinky finger was found to do something extraordinary back in the 1990’s. Scientists found that when the immortal jellyfish (Turritopsis dohrnii) was injured or was in the late ageing process, it would sink to the bottom of the ocean, return to a younger self (much like an human adult would return to a foetus) and then using the gene pool available at that early stage of development, birth itself anew and start life over.
This is how it got its title — the immortal jellyfish.
So Is The Immortal Gene Already Imprinted Into Nature?
It would appear so and scientists have been fascinated ever since its discovery and in the potential health benefits it may offer humanity.
Whether the human race is ready for immortality or whether we deserve to be is a whole different topic but by the very nature of the gene already being in nature, anything is possible, especially with the more we uncover and learn about the world we live in.
Undifferentiated stem cells (the cells that can turn into any other cell in our body) aren’t new to us, however, especially not in the scientific world with many stem cell treatments already being available, but accessing them is still somewhat of a mystery to us.
There have been myths and stories from ancient India of very saintly people miraculously healing themselves or in old scriptures of certain meditations and breath work unlocking these stem cells to heal and regenerate the body rapidly and naturally, but for many of us mere mortals, these states are far beyond our human capacities, let alone our comprehension.
But a jellyfish — that’s more reasonable maybe. At least now it’s been approved by science, anyway.
If we were to activate these undifferentiated stem cells we have stored deep within our bone marrow and fat tissues — could the chance to rapidly heal heal lie within us too?
Could all this lead to immortality? Who knows. Maybe it can lead to anti-aging potions or help us rebuild structures in our bodies that we may have otherwise given up on, like sore knees or bad hips, but that’s all for us to wait and see.
As old systems are collapsing all around us, especially the health system, financial system and education systems, seeing the incredible ways nature finds to heal and regenerate is very inspiring and could lead us to a deeper understanding of how powerful we might just be.

The path to Immortality may well be within us after all.
