Dr. Joe Dispenza recently said, “When you feel joy, love, appreciation, and gratitude, you release oxytocin. Oxytocin then releases nitric oxide which opens up the valves in the heart. So literally the heart starts to pump love around the body. That’s why it feels so good.”
How to feel joy, love, appreciation, and gratitude? That’s the big question.
For me, there are some external factors such as eating delicious food, being in a beautiful landscape, being around loving people, reading or listening to engaging content, and walking in nature that all make me feel good. But that relies on external forces to bring happiness into my life.
Then there are ways to create these emotions internally which is what I’m most excited about.
Here is what I do on a daily basis:
Breathing exercises
Cold water immersion (or a cold shower)
Meditation
Exercise
Chanting
Yoga
All of these bring a sense of wonder, joy, and appreciation into my life. Oxytocin then gives a loving nudge to nitric oxide that squeezes itself into my heart space. My heart then responds by becoming coherent and pumping love around my body.
If I’m lucky, I get to combine lots of these exercises together before breakfast. This normally results in me having a pretty good day.
As life is just a series of days in a row, if I have a good day, eventually I’ll have a good life.
As simple as this philosophy is, it’s also quite profound.
So once everything is said and done, having a good life starts with a having a good morning practice.
Don’t wait for others to make you happy, cultivate within.
Below is a short and sweet breathing exercise for the week. It often puts a smile on my face so I thought I’d share with you today.
Whale’s Breath
Breathe in deeply through your nose and hold
Continue holding your breath for as long as you possibly can (even beyond a comfortable edge)
When it’s time to exhale, imagine a whale’s blowhole, tip your head back and then exhale the breath forcefully through pursed lips
Relax the body and return to normal breathing
Repeat once more if it feels good to do so
Thanks for reading!
Have a beautiful week :)
