Recently, a study found that we think around 50,000 thoughts a day. What’s even more impressive is that of those 50,000 thoughts, 98% of them are said to be the same as yesterday’s. So, just 2% of the thoughts I think today will be new.
That’s some heavily waited math that leans on the past for comfort.
How then do we look toward the future and create the life we want?
One of my all-time favourite books is Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch. Among the many lessons inside, he lays out a 6-step formula for life that I love:
“What you hope, you will eventually believe.
What you believe, you will eventually know.
What you know, you will eventually create.
What you create, you will eventually experience.
What you experience, you will eventually express.
What you express, you will eventually become.”
Mahatma Gandhi put it another way:
“Your beliefs become your thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values. Your values become your destiny.”
Both remind me that my thoughts are where life begins and that what I think about now becomes my future reality.
So - What do you want to think about today?
What do you want to become real tomorrow?
“The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek therefore, not to find out Who You Are, but seek to determine Who You Want to Be.” —Neale Donald Walsch
P.S. Next week my own book - The Joy of Breathing - will be released on pre-order. It’s been 3 years in the making so I can’t wait to share it with you!
Until then, have a beautiful weekend!
