A question I try and ask myself often is “what if this was the last time I do what I’m about to do?”
It works on the premise that nothing is guaranteed in life so I must enjoy the moment while it lasts. Asking this question often brings me into a state of awareness and I feel more grateful (even when I’m taking a cold shower!)
Muhammed Ali once said, “Live everyday as if it were your last because someday you're going to be right.” He’s right, of course, but it’s easy to think that life will drag on forever.
This question reminds me that it won’t. And precisely because of that, I try and enjoy it more.
As this newsletter is related to breathing I would like to ask you a simple question: what if this was the last breath you ever breathed?
Would you become aware of it moving in and out of your lungs? Would you notice the trillions and trillions of cells that come alive every time that you breathe? Would you give gratitude for how it continues to give you life?
Or would you let it pass you by as you might a stranger in the street?
My hope is that it’s the former. That’s what these words are all about. That’s my mission in life.
To change the world one breath at a time.
See you next week.
